The Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) is organising a webinar entitled, “Building Climate-resilient Health Systems in the Global South” on Wednesday, April 6th, 2022 at 3-5 pm Pakistan time/ 10am-12pm GMT. The event is a part of activities to celebrate the World Health Day that falls on 7th April. This year, the theme of the World Health Day: “Our planet, our health” calls the governments and organizations to “act for climate, act for health”.

The growing threats of climate change, global warming and environmental degradation pose severe impacts on human health and consequently health systems. As per WHO, globally 13 million people lose their lives annually owing to climate mediated health threats i.e. air pollution, extreme weather events, migration, food insecurity and mental health. Global South is the most vulnerable region of the world facing severe impacts of climate change. These countries have inefficient health systems to withstand disasters of climate change. The purpose of the webinar is to bring together international experts of the subject to highlight various health adaptation measures and mitigation strategies in order to address the climate owed challenges to health systems, especially in the global south. Speakers will be touching upon the challenges faced, strategic approaches and the possible solutions in various spheres of health systems to make them Climate-resilient and sustainable.
