The COVID-19 outbreak interrupted the beginning of the “Decade of Action” on the Sustainable Development Agenda (2030 Agenda). The nature of the pandemic and its impacts require us to place more importance on the sustainable development agenda, which provides a framework to tackle the rising social-economic issues and to prevent similar crises from happening in the future. Thus, the response and recovery from the pandemic need to be put within the context of sustainable development. In this context, sustainability education for the youth, who will live the emerging future, is more important than ever.
The UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and Shenzhen Haohan Technology Information Ltd have co-developed the “Youth Triangular Cooperation Academy for Sustainable Development Agenda (YTCA4SDA)” to provide training focusing on sustainability education for the youth from the Global South in Asia-Pacific. Following the training, students will develop their own initiatives to tackle a specific problem within the scope of one SDG of their choice. Student participants will develop valuable transferable skills through YTCA4SDA’s Project Based Learning (PBL) approach. The YTC4SDA will be implemented under UNOSSC’s Youth4South Platform thus complementing other initiatives under the Platform.
The partners are working on the first training to take place in the third quarter of 2020. The training will be delivered online although for the future, the organisers will consider on-site training if conditions allow.
The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) launched the “Youth for South: Advanced Youth Leadership Programme” with several partners in 2017 with the intention to facilitate capacity development for established youth leaders from developing countries to learn and adapt South-South and triangular cooperation knowledge and tools in scaling up Southern development solutions with the objective of bringing sustainable development to their home countries and local communities.
